Sitting in a meeting I see many of my colleagues checking screens, texting, and emailing while someone is talking or making a presentation… Does not feel good to me.
I would not like to be treated that way.
We live in an age of dramatic distraction. According to research done, we waste 2.5 hours in a day in distraction. In fact every 11 mins we get distracted from the work we started be it email, social media, facebook, twitter, whatsapp … Students are reported texting – a full 3 hours per day on average. They also spend an hour and forty minutes per day on Facebook. This is research 4 -5 years back. Statistics might have spiraled up now. In this internet era, There are so many things competing for our attention.
Distraction is tremendous waste of time, talent, energy.
What’s more interesting is that it takes 25 min to focus back.
The good news is that our brain can learn to ignore distractions and we can develop the skill to get more focused, creative, and productive.
The option that thought leaders suggest is to train our brain to develop the skill to focus
One option that definitely worked for me especially during my university days is to Shift gears – from studies to something light like going for a walk. Back in India I loved going for walks; here at times weather does not permit ..its gets difficult. But walking is energizing, refueling, replenishing energy for me
