1 Habit that can change the course of your day

1 Habit that can change the course of your day is .. guess what? SMILE! SMILE because it’s POWERFUL. I vividly remember how my younger son often used his naughty smile to calm me down from my temper. It was like a magic wand. My physiology and course of action would completely change. And my mom, Oh!! She is a SMILE guru or should I say a laughter guru. However tense or stressful the situation is, her smile lightens the moment, brings in positivity, energy and liveliness back to the room. It is these moments of joy which I treasure and cherish so much more than the materialistic things.

So I thought to myself, if its so powerful.. Why not make it a habit? I have consciously included ‘SMILE’ in my daily routine.  Voilà.. My days are less stressful and relationships more powerful. I believe SMILE is the most precious and beautiful piece of jewelry that one can possess and its always uniquely ours.  I find that SMILE is the easiest way to improve your day and the day of those around you. It’s an instrument for instant connection. It is infectious. Smile has the power to increase both the well-being of the one who offers the smile as well as the one who receives it.

Dale Carnegie once said, “The expression one wears on one’s face is far more important than the clothes one wears on one’s back.” Smiling releases endorphins, the feel-good chemicals that trigger positive emotions and make us feel even happier. It has shown to be effective in reducing stress by lowering levels of stress hormones such as cortisol and reducing blood pressure. A study conducted at Penn State University showed that the smiles of employees had a direct, positive effect on customer satisfaction and increased repeat business.

This is the science and now the ART is to simply do it. Practice to SMILE

Here are 3 tips

  1. Start your morning routine with a smile

  2. Post a smiley in a place that you look often refer to.. like your refrigerator or office desk

  3. Make a conscious choice to start a conversation with a gentle smile

Call for action is to Practice to SMILE; Make it a habit. Start now; post a smiling picture of yours; I have posted mine (I am bad at selfies though); I am planning to collage all our beautiful smiles and make it the Banner of this page (any one volunteering to collage is most welcome J)
