Kondo your life

Yesterday I was speaking of decluttering at an event and interestingly today I stumbled upon a podcast on Marie Kondo

Marie Kondo also known as “KonMari” is a Japanese organizing consultant, author and entrepreneur. Kondo’s book, The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up – The Japanese Art of Decluttering and Organizing is an international bestseller

She developed a revolutionary method of organizing known as the KonMari Method which consists of gathering together everything you own, one category at a time and then keeping only those things that “spark joy”. Instead of deciding what to get rid of, she says, the focus should be on what to keep – which few things spark sufficient joy or are truly necessary

Kondo’s methods have become so famous that her last name has become a verb, ‘Kondo-ing’

The bestselling Japanese author says that anything that doesn’t make you happy or isn’t absolutely necessary should be touched, thanked and sent on its way. She suggests starting with what is easiest to part with..  from the clothes, then the books, then documents, then miscellany and last .. the most difficult, photos and mementos.

I would argue, extend ‘Kondo-ing’ beyond the materialistic things

Kondo your life J

Start focusing on those people, activities that spark joy and add value to your life and are truly important for you. As Kondo says, anyone or anything that doesn’t “spark joy” is to be touched, thanked and ceremonially sent on its way towards a better life elsewhere

By ‘Kondo-ing’ our lives we can do away with so much of unnecessary stuff that steals our joy and time

The feeling itself is liberating. Isnt it? Tough to part .. but worth it

Isn’t our lives precious and worth surrounding with the things that support and enable us to be at our best ? Time to review and rethink

Until Next,
