Wind Off Your Day Well

Why is it that you need to wind off your day well?

I had a bad night sleep yesterday. Not in terms of no of hours but quality of sleep. I slept for more than 8 hours but the sleep was disturbed. It directly reflected on the quality of my day today.

I feel less energetic, sluggish, have a bad headache and not in a mood that I would like to be. Probably its visible

I think it was because of the caffeine I had late evening, some things that kept bothering me when I when off to sleep. What I have been also noticing is that my sleep schedule over the weekend is drastically different from the weekdays and this is not good

The point that I want to drive is that in today’s hyper-busy world, it’s easy to overlook the importance of sleep. We often undermine Sleep and its contribution to performance and the quality of life in general. Sleep is powerful. Way more than we may think! We (including me J) must learn to value sleep as much as we give importance to proper nutrition and exercise.

Cornell Professor Dr. James Maas, a leading sleep scientist, who teaches how to optimize our sleep for peak performance says most people slept TEN (!!!) hours per night before Edison days of electricity which, Dr. Maas tells us, is “ideal for optimal performance.”

Quote from his book ‘Power Sleep’ he says “For anyone who wants to be successful, sleep is a necessity, not a luxury.. Even minimal sleep loss can have profound detrimental effects on mood, cognition, performance, productivity, communication skills, accident rates, and general health, including gastrointestinal system, cardiovascular functioning, and our immune systems”

Ask yourself – Are you getting enough and restful sleep and what can you do to wind off the day well and improve your sleep hygiene?
